Privacy policy
Aternex stores what you send through the contact form and anonymous page counts. There is no tracking.

What the contact form stores
When you send a message through the contact form, Aternex stores your name, organization, reply details and message in Azure Table Storage, in Microsoft's East US 2 region in the United States. It is not stored in the website repository, and it is not copied to a mailing list or a customer database.
When a message is stored, an email notification with the same details is sent to Austin Lippert through Azure Communication Services, so he can read it and reply. I reply within two business days.
Each network address can send only a limited number of messages in a period, to keep the form from being abused. To count recent messages, the address is kept only as a one-way hash: it is combined with a secret value and scrambled, so it cannot be turned back into the address. The hash is never stored with your message. It counts toward the limit for up to ten minutes, and is deleted, at the latest, when anyone sends a message a minute or more after that; if that deletion fails, by the next one that succeeds.
Messages are never shared or sold. They stay in storage until they are deleted; ask through the form and yours will be removed.
Tracking and usage counts
This site has no tracking cookies, no third-party scripts and no advertising. Aternex does not build a profile of visitors or follow them across other sites.
To see how the site is used, each page you open sends one anonymous note to Aternex: the page's address without its query string, the name of the site that linked to it (only its host, such as www.google.com), any utm_source, utm_medium or utm_campaign tag in the link, whether the window is narrow, medium or wide, and the time. A random visit number joins the pages opened in one tab; it is kept only in that tab and is forgotten when the tab closes.
The note holds no name, no network address, no browser details and nothing you type. It is stored in Azure Application Insights, in the United States, for 30 days, and only to count visits. No note is sent when your browser asks sites not to track it, through Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.
Fonts are self-hosted: they are downloaded once at build time and served from this site, so your browser does not contact a font provider.
Your theme choice
If you pick the light or dark theme, the choice is kept in your browser's storage on your own device. It is never sent to Aternex, and you can clear it from your browser settings at any time.
Other sites
Two links lead to external sites with their own privacy policies:
- LinkedIn, at linkedin.com/in/austinlippert (opens in a new tab).
- The Google Calendar booking page that opens when you choose Book a call.
Aternex does not control what those sites collect once you leave this one.
